Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Summer 2026 Intern in Mechanical Engineering interested in Aerospace. In this role, you will support on going space payload development, conduct fabrication/testing support, and process support for the mechanical team. The successful candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks/CREO/Ansys), mechanical design, and/or electronics packaging knowledge. Must be a US Citizen. This position is located in Severn, MD which is south of Baltimore at our 3 building facility that builds satellite payloads and has ~150 technical staff on site.

Requirements

  • Pursing a Bachelors (3rd year or above) or Masters degree in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science Engineering.
  • Experience in designing and carrying out experiments (e.g. undergraduate/graduate research, lab coursework).
  • Hands on experience in one or more of the following: Prototyping, Troubleshooting, Rework/Repair, Fabricating, or Diagnostics
  • Interest in electronics packaging design or mechanical space component design.
  • Must be a US Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficient in CREO and/or SolidWorks
  • Coursework in structures and/or thermal analysis
  • Machine design and drafting experience.
  • Hands-on manufacturing experience (e.g. machining, composite layup, etc).
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills including a passionate and can-do attitude.
