About The Position

Omega Morgan believes that each employee makes a significant contribution to our success. That contribution should not be limited by the assigned responsibilities. Therefore, this position description is designed to outline primary duties, qualifications and job scope, but not limit the individual nor the organization to just the work identified. It is our expectation that each employee will offer his/her services wherever and whenever necessary to ensure the success of our endeavors. Mechanical Engineering Drafter knows how to turn complex concepts into precise, buildable drawings—especially in heavy lift and rigging environments. This role supports engineering and project teams by producing accurate technical drawings for transport, lifting, and installation of oversized or high-value equipment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of mechanical drafting experience (more if you expect them to hit the ground running)
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD required; SolidWorks or Inventor preferred)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication methods, and structural interfaces
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with crane lift planning and rigging drawings
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ASME, ANSI, OSHA related to lifting/rigging)
  • Experience in industries like heavy industrial, construction, oil & gas, or specialized transport
  • Field exposure—someone who understands that drawings have to work outside, not just on paper

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, and schematics using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Create fabrication, assembly, and rigging drawings for heavy lift and transport projects
  • Interpret engineering calculations, specifications, and design inputs into clear, accurate drawings
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure drawings reflect real-world conditions
  • Revise and update drawings based on field feedback, RFIs, and project changes
  • Ensure all drawings meet industry standards, safety requirements, and company drafting practices
  • Support lift planning documentation, including crane configurations, rigging details, and load paths
  • Maintain organized drawing files and revision control
