About The Position

H2M architects and engineers is seeking a Department Manager to lead the Mechanical Engineering department in their Melville, NY office. This role involves directing projects, managing client relations, and overseeing the Mechanical team with a focus on HVAC design and project management. The position emphasizes building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort, while ensuring collaboration with other engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • 20+ years of overall MEP experience, with a strong focus on HVAC projects in a consulting firm.
  • At least 10 years of project management experience and oversight of staff.
  • Prior experience working with local municipalities/government agencies.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead Mechanical/HVAC staff at various levels.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with sustainability practices in engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the Mechanical Engineering department, overseeing staff workload and project completion.
  • Review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments; assess overall project and financial performance.
  • Supervise and coordinate projects with other engineering and architecture departments.
  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications for public and private bidding.
  • Build and nurture client relationships; communicate with clients regarding project activities.
  • Provide technical leadership, production scheduling, quality control, and cost proposals.
  • Participate in business development initiatives and efforts.
  • Lead and attend project meetings related to construction administration; review contractor submittals and provide feedback.
  • Perform other duties to grow and enhance the Mechanical Engineering team and MEP discipline.
