At DuPont, our purpose is to empower the world with essential innovations to thrive. We work on things that matter. Whether it's providing clean water to more than a billion people on the planet, producing materials that are essential in everyday technology devices from smartphones to electric vehicles, or protecting workers around the world. The E&I Leveraged Engineering team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the North America region for Integrated Operations. This selected candidate will provide technical support to plant operations as well as for capital projects. This position provides support in developing and implementing design, upgrades, and problem solutions for piping, pressure vessels, pressure relief devices, mixing equipment, heat transfer equipment, air abatement equipment, solid handling equipment, and storage tanks. Expertise is desired in code design, regulatory compliance, non-metallics, pipe stress analysis, equipment repair, factory acceptance testing, and fitness for service. The ideal candidate will have detailed expertise in designing and commissioning of process equipment for batch, continuous, and discrete processes.

  • Utilizing fitness-for-service concepts to evaluate flaws and other damage mechanisms on existing pressure vessels, non-metallic vessels, and piping systems
  • Assisting site inspection groups with proactive analysis of piping systems to prevent and eliminate piping failures and leaks
  • Analyzing pressure vessel, heat exchanger, pressure relief device, and tank Mechanical Integrity / Quality Assurance (MIQA) operating problems
  • Providing operating and maintenance support to recommend and help implement solutions for process equipment used in DuPont
  • Identifying and promoting best practices (including national and international standards) for designing, operating, and maintaining pressure vessels, tanks and heat exchangers
  • Performing pipe stress / flexibility analyses for plant sites and capital projects using ANSYS and CAESAR II® software
  • Troubleshooting piping configuration issues and recommending solutions in compliance with industry codes and standards

  • At least 5 years of experience involving rotating machinery, piping, vessels, and automated equipment
  • General knowledge of static process equipment typically used in chemical, and polymer processes
  • General knowledge of overpressure protection systems, such as pressure relief valves, rupture disks, buckling pins, conservation vents, emergency relief valves, flame arrestors, explosion vent panels, and high-integrity protection systems
  • Familiarity with non-metallics such as plastic piping and vessels, FRP tanks, plastic-lined piping and vessels for the design, inspection, and repair
  • Familiarity with fixed equipment RAGAGEPs for the design, inspection and repair (e.g. ASME, API, STI, ASTM)
  • Experience with interpretation of regulatory requirements that apply to fixed equipment design and maintenance (e.g. OSHA, EPA, PED, State Boiler and Vessel Laws)
  • Execution of quality audits for suppliers and manufacturers of fixed equipment materials
  • Able to travel to manufacturing sites, equipment manufacturers, and repair shops (average 35% of time)
  • Able to travel to manufacturing sites in the Asia Pacific region within 48 hours when site emergencies arise
  • Experience with Process Safety Management and Mechanical Integrity Systems
  • Experience with Process Automation and Process Engineering
