About The Position

We are seeking an Engineer to join our Mechanical Development Unit. The Engineer position is an entry-level engineering position reporting to the Mechanical Development Unit Head and receiving work direction from a Project Manager or Technical Lead. The Division of Engineering is a group of multi-disciplinary engineers and technicians with a passion for solving today’s challenges in medical innovation. We provide engineering consultation, design, and development services to Mayo Clinic staff who need systems, instruments, or devices that are not commercially available. We contribute to inspiring hope and promoting health by developing novel devices, advancing innovative ideas, and applying technology to support integrated clinical practice, education, and research across the enterprise. Through collaboration with clinicians and researchers, we strive to transform patient care every day. Successful Engineer candidates will have demonstrated capability in performing the following responsibilities: Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems. Possess knowledge of engineering tools, design techniques, and underlying theory relevant to mechanical engineering. Ability to summarize and communicate the results of work efforts to project team members and management in a clear, concise, and timely manner. Accomplish assigned tasks and manage multiple priorities. Understand the importance of a quality management system. Participate in safety risk management activities. Operate effectively as a self‑starter in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. Communicate clearly with technicians, engineers, managers, physicians, and researchers. Possess effective oral communication and presentation skills. The following specialized skills are preferred: Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred). Experience with design for manufacturing including additive manufacturing. Familiarity with medical device design and manufacturing. Familiarity with the FDA’s Quality System Regulation 21 CFR Part 820. Familiarity with ISO 13485. Familiarity with ISO 14971. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/ we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program. Business needs require the employee to live within reasonable driving distance to Rochester, MN. The position is considered “HYBRID”, meaning that time is shared between on-site/in-person work and remote work. (Initially, mostly on-site work will be required until the individual gains familiarity with our processes and organization.)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in engineering or related field.
  • Possess knowledge of engineering tools, design techniques, and underlying theory relevant to mechanical engineering.

  • Master’s preferred.
