About The Position

Protecting People.” We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to partner with our experienced engineering team in this environmentally focused industry. A Mechanical Engineer at Smith and Loveless will design, develop and test company related products while working closely with other designers, drafters, engineers, production and other cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum Associates of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD (Inventor, AutoCAD) and basic knowledge of MathCAD, Ansys or other FEA software, fluid dynamics and/or structural design considering wind and seismic conditions a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to details.
  • Proficiency with CNC/Manual mills & lathes, press breaks, plasma cutters, welding, drill presses, hand tools and other shop tools.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, machine design, mechanics of materials, tolerance stacking, metal forming, and manufacturing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of mills, lathes, press breaks, plasma cutters, welding and general fabrication is preferred. Must be organized and motivated to meet deadlines, detail oriented, and follow company standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Teams, OneNote and Planner.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test mechanical systems, using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD 2D. Additive Manufacturing and hands on approaches.
  • Develop detailed technical 3D models/drawings and specifications using CAD software.
  • Conduct FEA simulations, hands-on prototyping, tolerance stacking evaluation, and engineering production trials to validate design performance
  • Lead Projects, testing, failure analysis and continuous improvement initiatives for production efficiency and product reliability.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Control and other cross-functional teams to produce models, drawings, and company products.
  • Support Manufacturing and quality control on manufacturing and quality control issues
  • Manage projects in company project management system.
  • Manage workload effectively to handle multiple projects within a specified time frame.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager, Design Engineering.
