Zalkin Americas is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to be responsible for designing capping machines, capping machine accessories and machine components for bottle capping machinery. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the design process, including analyzing application requirements, configuring systems, designing parts and assemblies, creating line layouts, maintaining documentation and communication with coworkers and customers. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and is located in Statham, GA area. Mechanical engineering projects include obtaining customer specifications and designing the mechanical components of the machinery. This involves working closely with the Sales Department, application of mechanical engineering knowledge of machinery principles and materials, manufacturing methods and processes to insure designs are functional, practical, economical and satisfy customer operating requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in machine design.
  • Designing for manufacturability.
  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  • Must be fluent in use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD (2D).
  • A general knowledge of product handling, machine capabilities and assembly principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to travel 10% of the time

Nice To Haves

  • Packaging experience preferred.
  • SolidWorks certification (CSWE / CSWP) is preferred.
  • Sheetmetal experience and certification is desired but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Be an expert in utilizing Solidworks as primary computer-aided design (CAD) platform.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD for line layout creation / modification.
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles, designs new products and systems that meet company standards and customer requirements.
  • Modify existing designs in equipment to meet performance specifications and customer requirements.
  • Research and analyze data, such as customer requirements, design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of the design or application.
  • Learn and meet company quality standards and objectives and deadlines to successfully fulfil customers’ requirements.
  • Maintain a minimum amount of rework that meets the company’s quality standards.
  • Perform design reviews with customers and communicate with vendors as needed.
  • Analyze and prioritize projects based on the scope of established internal operations schedule.
  • Interface with Manufacturing to ensure machinery designs are properly fabricated, parts machined, and assembled which may include revising of mechanical design specifications/drawings.
  • Interfacing with the Production Department to conduct machinery mechanical testing and interfaces with other departments e.g. sales/marketing, parts, purchasing, etc., to coordinate work/projects to ensure customer on-time delivery.
  • Prepare and direct reports to other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Act as a technical resource for customers and Service Department’s Service Technicians to address and resolve inquires and problems. Especially, during machine installation and start-up in customer plant(s).
