About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in Electro/Mechanical hardware design. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of next-generation optical transceivers and optical interconnects in a fast-paced R&D environment. In addition, they will have a proven track record of successful project execution. You will be responsible for designing the housings for optical networking products, and ensuring manufacturability and reliability in production environments. You'll work cross-functionally with optical, hardware, packaging, test, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, scalable, and high-performance optical hardware platforms while ensuring product goals are met.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in optical networking (open line systems, optical terminals, and pluggable optics) or related hardware
  • Familiarity with mechanical reliability testing (shock, vibration, thermal cycling)
  • Proven experience in using Creo software for product design and development and other engineering software
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and concepts
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and develop mechanical housings for optical networking products using PTC’s Creo software
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand all aspects of the project requirements and to ensure they are successfully achieved
  • Create detailed design drawings and 3D models
  • Help perform design validation tests, root cause analysis, and troubleshoot issues to optimize product design
  • Perform thermal analysis and simulations using Ansys Icepak software
  • Communicate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure smooth production and address design-related issues
  • Ensure compliance with MSA standards (e.g., QSFP-DD, OSFP) and mechanical interface specifications for data center environments
  • Define tooling, fixtures, and assembly instructions for precise optical and mechanical builds in collaboration with global vendors and suppliers
  • Work with suppliers and vendors for component selection and procurement
  • Ensure systems comply with safety and regulatory standards
  • Manage project timelines and milestones effectively
  • Stay updated with industry trends, advancements in technology, and best practices in product design to improve system performance
