Role Description We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support design engineering, estimating, field operations, and modernization efforts across our lifting and engineered‑equipment portfolio. This role includes mechanical design, structural analysis, equipment inspections, customer collaboration, and on-site project support. You will work closely with sales, operations, manufacturing, and vendor engineering teams to deliver safe, compliant, high-quality engineered solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
  • Experience with cranes, derricks, lifting equipment, or heavy mechanical systems (typically 3–7 years).
  • Equivalent experience with offshore lifting, heavy industrial construction, or refinery operations.
  • Proficiency with CAD and engineering analysis tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FEA, structural analysis software).
  • Strong understanding of OSHA 1910/1926, ASME B30 series, API RP 2D, and ISO standards.
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings, load charts, and technical documentation.
  • Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or active PE preferred.
  • Performing root‑cause failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic systems, wire rope applications, powertrain components, and structural welding requirements.
  • Versatility of knowledge for power plants, including conversion experience: friction machines, electrical, hydraulic power trains, and conversion between these powertrain types.
  • Certification from NCCCO, CIC, LEEA, or equivalent (engineering or inspection track).

Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and approve all projects as directed, both internal and external. Work directly with customer and vendor engineering groups and systems engineering.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Develop mechanical designs for cranes, derricks, hoists, and lifting devices.
  • Follow and apply AMECO engineering standards, including calculators, calculation approaches, applied safety factors for various engineering solutions, drawing format, drawing notes, revision protocol for drawings and engineering documents, estimates, proposals, etc., under guidance from a senior engineer.
  • Improve the AMECO engineering standards as directed by management.
  • Ensure that all engineering is sound and proper, or otherwise reviewed by appropriate, knowledgeable parties to ensure due diligence is met on behalf of AMECO.
  • Perform structural and mechanical calculations, including load charts, lift planning, finite element analysis, and fatigue assessment.
  • Evaluate control modifications and equipment upgrades utilizing the new technology to improve performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Solidworks, including FEA.
  • Determine need for peer review of designs.
  • Work with other specialist engineering groups as necessary.
  • Provide sales cycle and manufacturing support as needed.
  • Join the standards committee with participation in the heavy lift industry. This can be any of the ASME B30 series of standards or other related standard committees or subcommittees.
  • Communicate AMECO solutions to peer groups (ASBi)
  • Support field operations during crane erection, disassembly, commissioning, and significant repairs.
  • Collaborate with construction, operations, HSE, and project management teams to ensure safe and effective lifting operations.
  • Resolve technical and engineering issues promptly and cleanly. Get your work vetted to ensure accuracy and a proper conclusion to any problem.
  • Project assembly, process, and maintenance documentation to enable clients and skilled trades to accomplish safe erection and use standards
  • Manage vendor relationships, evaluate equipment proposals, and review engineering submittals.
  • Develop definitive estimates for proposals and client quotations.
  • Implement continual process improvements for systems and fabrication.
  • Interaction and visits to AMECO customer sites as necessary for high-value engineered proposal creation.
  • Perform or oversee mechanical inspections of cranes, derricks, rigging gear, and support structures.
  • Investigate mechanical failures and lead root‑cause analysis.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance teams regarding troubleshooting, repairs, and component selection.
  • Ensure equipment and operations comply with OSHA, ASME B30, API, ISO, and other applicable standards.
  • Conduct engineering reviews of critical lifts, lift plans, and rigging designs.
  • Participate in risk assessments and failure mode analysis for lifting operations.
  • Prepare engineering reports, lift studies, technical evaluations, and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, inspections, incidents, and engineering changes.
