About The Position

HFA has an exciting role for a Mechanical Engineer to join a vigorously growing, employee-owned organization providing best-in-class mechanical design solutions for buildings across the United States. This position supports HVAC and plumbing system design in a highly collaborative environment and offers flexibility in how you work. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to projects through all phases of design. This role offers a clear path to increased responsibility and client-facing opportunities. While flexible work arrangements are available, we are seeking candidates located in the Northeast to support regional collaboration and project needs. HFA is employee-owned and people-powered.

Requirements

  • Engineer should have a basic understanding of energy codes and how to apply them to HVAC systems design with minimal oversight.
  • Engineer should have a basic understanding of energy codes and understand their impact on a buildings design.
  • Engineer should have a good understanding of Trane Trace.
  • Engineer should have a basic understanding of simple HVAC systems, including controls, sanitary and domestic water systems, and standard design practices for each.
  • Engineer should be able to apply their knowledge gained through experience and knowledge of recognized national standards to simple projects, with minimal oversight from a more Senior Engineer or Designer.
  • Engineer should have a good understanding of software assisting programs, such as Trane Trace, and be able to apply throughout the design process.
  • Designer should be able to design and draft domestic water, sewer, and natural gas piping systems, including riser diagrams, for small to medium projects.
  • BSME from an Abet Accredited Engineering Program
  • Licensed Professional Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Engineer has the ability to lead a small client/client team (1-2 staff), small projects, or portions of a large project utilizing their experience and education in HVAC systems, controls, plumbing systems and knowledge of national standards; as well as solve medium to difficult design challenges that arise on a project.
  • Engineer can work in an independent manner on several project and/or client types with minimal supervision from a more Senior Engineer or Designer.
  • Engineer will work with Mechanical Engineer and/or Mechanical Design Lead to communicate with client, deliver completed construction documents, and assist in construction administration as required for most project types.
  • Engineer will work in a collaborative environment with Architects and other Engineers to develop construction documents based on a clients' requirements, including some basic project management and construction administration functions.
  • Engineer will be able to perform quality control of their projects and others, for final review by Engineer of Record.
  • Engineer could have direct client contact, unless in a strictly technical role.
  • Engineer will work with Mechanical Design Lead to establish project budgets, if requested, and be able to work within budgets.
  • Engineer will also work with Electrical Team Lead to ensure projects are financially successful, unless in a strictly technical role for the company.
  • Engineer should be able to edit specifications on small to medium projects.
  • Engineer should be good in AutoCAD and/or REVIT.
  • Engineer should be able to train employees on company standards, drafting techniques and technical questions pertaining to HVAC, plumbing, energy codes, and Trane Trace.
