Overview: The Mechanical Engineer, based in Horsham, PA, will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of complex wafer processing equipment involving wet processing technologies used in the manufacturing of advanced semiconductors, LEDs, displays, photonics, VCSELs, power electronics, compound semiconductors, hard disk drives, MEMS and wireless chips. This is a key member of the Engineered to Order (ETO) team. The engineer will work closely with engineering leadership, cross-functional engineering team members, sales, marketing, and field service team members. This role involves automation, gas and fluid delivery, with a concentration on fluidic design, mechanical design, and system packaging for systems already installed at customer sites.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience designing capital equipment, subassemblies, and components, or an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3 years of experience, is required.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, or similar CAD systems, is required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Able to take initiative and own full projects.
  • Experience with finite element analysis, both structural and thermal.
  • General knowledge of electrical and software engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of technological complexity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including specification development; ability to make technical presentations and interface with management, suppliers, and customers.
  • Must be hands-on with devices, prototyping, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to customer sites and/or supplier facilities on an as-needed basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP or similar PLM system.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, sensors, automation, robotics, instrumentation, motion control, motor selection, encoders, electronic packaging, SEMI regulatory standards is a plus.
  • Project management experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop fluidic design, mechanical design, and system packaging for new ETO single wafer processing systems and field upgrades.
  • Develop subassemblies and components for wet processing technologies.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise, while focusing on design quality, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Design for safety, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Define mechanical design based on customer specifications and requirements.
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes are compliant with standard design practices and safety codes.
  • Ensure appropriate prototyping and functional testing is performed on designs to ensure reliable products can be produced in a repeatable manner.
  • Perform analytical studies and theoretical calculations using a variety of engineering knowledge, including analysis of vessels, heat transfer, material structural analysis, static and dynamic, fluids, and motion mechanisms.
  • Prepare presentations and present design concepts, ideas, and test results to internal and external customers.
  • Provide expertise in mechanical engineering while participating in design reviews.
  • Support procurement efforts in correlation with overall project deadlines.
  • Provide “hands-on” assistance and support to the manufacturing team.
  • Create and release engineering documentation through the ECO process.
  • Support Program Management with execution of projects through the Veeco Product Life Cycle (PLC).
  • Understand and adhere to various industry standards, including SEMI S2.
