The open position is for a Mechanical Engineer in the hydro mechanical engineering group. The team is responsible for the design of large hydro generator and turbine components, with a primary focus on U.S. projects. This position includes responsibility for the mechanical design during all stages of a project life cycle (proposal, contract design, manufacturing and installation). The unique requirements of each hydro project make this a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a candidate with related skills and experience. The Mechanical Engineer is expected to work closely with colleagues in the engineering department as well as the project management, manufacturing, and installation teams. Occasional travel to customer locations, project sites or other ANDRITZ offices is required.

  • Analysis of mechanical components, using in-house tools or developing calculations as necessary.
  • Documentation for proposals (as-required), technical reports, and customer O&M manuals;
  • Creation, review, and approval of mechanical drawings to ensure contractual and internal requirements are met;
  • Creation of engineering instructions that define technical requirements for manufacturing , installation and testing;
  • Disposition of non-conformances during manufacturing and installation;
  • Review and analysis of site data and testing;
  • Creation of engineering documentation supported by designers and drafters.
  • Lead design reviews with the aid of the technical subject matter experts;
  • Optimization of hydro generator mechanical design, for contracts and studies;
  • Provide support manufacturing, workshop testing, installation and commissioning of systems;
  • Participate in problem solving and root cause identification;
  • Participate in the planning of engineering activities related to the portfolio of projects on which he/she is assigned and report progress to internal project team
  • 3+ years Engineering experience required.
  • AD proficiency required (Siemens NX preferred).
  • Ability to read and understand contracts requiring close attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative & creativity.
  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Solutions focused while managing the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite, and relevant IT tools.
  • 10-15% travel domestically and abroad as required.
  • Manufacturing experience (welding, machining and/or casting) and site experience is a plus.
