About The Position
GFT is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Tacoma, WA. What you will be challenged to do: This is an excellent opportunity to independently perform mechanical engineering (HVAC and/design calculations, technical studies and prepares plans and specifications for a wide variety of project types which may include commercial, education, municipal, aviation, and federal clients. Exercise independent judgement in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to meet client requirements. Provide general oversight, control, and management of design-related activities as the originator of documents for projects. Prepare reports and letters.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering/BAE in Architectural Engineering.
- 4+ years of applicable experience.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Building Information Modeling (BIM).
- Expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Some experience with management of small work groups and project tasks.
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or E.I.T. is desired but not a requirement.
- Specialized experience in advanced software applications is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Understands client requirements as they relate to the mechanical scope of work; aligns and develops detailed design documents including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and calculations.
- Performs or directs junior staff to perform mechanical engineering calculations (e.g. heat load calculations, fan and pump friction loss calculations).
- Models or directs junior staff to model systems in Revit or AutoCAD.
- Coordinates with the client, the project team, and other disciplines to design full mechanical systems.
- Evaluates vendor submissions to assure compliance with contract documents.
- Consults with construction personnel concerning field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of activities.
- Reviews and responds to contractor submittals and requests for information.
- Performs site observations and collects field data.
- Provide assistance to or leads proposal teams.
- Mentor’s technical designers.
- Able to work in multi-disciplinary teams and lead tasks and simple project teams.
- As an originator of documents, ensure that production of drawings and specifications meets the scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements and satisfies federal, state, and local requirements.
