About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer will work on designing, testing, and prototyping new innovations for industrial machine tools in the field of additive manufacturing (AM). The role will focus on designing unique components and systems for AM, including CAD modeling, testing, and development of cost-effective manufacturing solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical design, a strong understanding of fabrication processes, and a solid grasp of additive manufacturing principles. This role will require creating CAD and drawing files, test plans, and test benches, along with a comprehensive understanding of additive manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, particularly with a focus on mechanism design.
  • Proficient in Creo & Windchill
  • Proficient in parametric CAD and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management).
  • Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis), GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and other simulation and analysis tools.
  • Experience with part processing, metal cutting, CNC programming, and machine setup.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven flexibility in managing shifting priorities and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in additive manufacturing (AM) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform development engineering work under direct supervision.
  • Research, design, development, and testing of equipment for AM (additive manufacturing).
  • Design and development of innovative solutions for powder conveyance, optical calibration, laser control, and gas flow.
  • Conduct time estimates for components to understand the impact of product innovations.
  • Calculate optimal machine parameters for part processing.
  • Apply statistical process control and machine reliability analysis.
  • Inspect finished parts for quality and accuracy.
  • Generate engineering reports and technical documentation.
  • Frequent communication with internal technical staff, external customers, and suppliers.
  • Experience in product development, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Create CAD models, drawing files, and develop test plans and test benches to validate designs.
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective through collaboration with manufacturing teams.
