About The Position

Founded in 1975, Salas O'Brien is an employee-owned engineering and professional services firm focused on achieving impact for our clients, our team, and the world. Our specialized experience includes design for Industrial manufacturing, chemical process, food and beverage, and material handling systems. Across Salas O'Brien we also work with central utility systems, science and technology, clean energy, structural and building sciences, infrastructure asset management, and more. The Mechanical Engineer will support the delivery of 2D and 3D engineering & design packages for projects from various markets and industries. We focus on the heavy industrial market - cement & lime plants, paper mills, chemical plants, sand & aggregate plants, steel mills, oil & gas processing, building products (roofing, asphalt, insulation, gypsum; etc.) and other manufacturing plants. This role involves development of mechanical equipment arrangements, piping, and material handling systems. The engineering and design work links with collaboration among other disciplines, participation in quality reviews, and client interactions.

Requirements

  • You have a growth mindset and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiar with mechanical engineering industry standards of practice.
  • 3-7 years of industry experience with a manufacturing company, engineering firm, or construction firm.
  • Bachelor's Science - Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven work experience as a mechanical engineer.
  • PE license or desire to obtain PE license is a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Autodesk Plant P&ID experience is a plus.
  • Ability to create 3D models from point cloud scans and Faro software.

Responsibilities

  • Grow, learn, and innovate.
  • Ability to design general equipment arrangements for various process systems within a 3D model.
  • Design and optimize mechanical processes to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Develop and design material handling systems utilizing various material handling components, belt conveyors, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, screeners, vibratory feeders.
  • Develop dust collection systems.
  • Design pump and piping systems for processes of varying temperatures and viscosities.
  • Ensure mechanical systems comply with safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure development of consistent and high-quality project deliverables.
  • Able to demonstrate a high standard of professionalism and customer service.
  • Meet critical deadlines and demonstrate the ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
  • Stay abreast of relevant industry developments and technology advancements.
