About The Position

The Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical leader of mechanical design for next-generation thermal imaging products. This role requires deep technical expertise, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to guide a team through the entire product lifecycle, from early concept to volume manufacturing. You will collaborate with electrical, optical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to deliver rugged, high-performance, and manufacturable products, while setting best practices and mentoring the mechanical engineering team. The Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer will report directly to the VP of Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design for complex electromechanical or optoelectronic systems.
  • Expertise in mechanical design using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools and simulation tools (FEA).
  • Deep understanding of high-volume plastic injection molding and cast metal part fabrication.
  • Deep experience with thermal management, environmental sealing, and ruggedized enclosures.
  • Strong background in precision mechanisms, DFM/DFA, and volume production processes.
  • Familiarity with IP-rated designs and environmental testing (shock, vibration, thermal cycling).
  • Knowledge of optical sensor packaging and EMI/thermal isolation strategies.
  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Track record of mentoring and leading mechanical teams.
  • Shape the mechanical design of industry-leading thermal imaging products.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary innovation at the intersection of optics, electronics, and AI.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design architecture for multiple thermal imaging products and platforms.
  • Define mechanical design strategies that optimize performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Oversee complex tolerance, stress, thermal, and modal analyses.
  • Drive design from concept to production, including prototyping, EV/DV/PV Test phases, and launch.
  • Lead critical design and cross-functional reviews to ensure alignment across disciplines.
  • Manage schedules, risks, and trade-offs for mechanical deliverables.
  • Implement advanced mechanical solutions for ruggedized, high-precision, and thermally constrained systems.
  • Champion DFM/DFA practices and ensure smooth transition to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Provide technical mentorship and career development for mechanical engineers.
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices, design standards, and documentation rigor.
  • Partner with optics, electronics, and industrial design teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Engage with suppliers for material selection, process validation, and tooling optimization.
