As a Mechanical Engineer, a typical day might include generating mechanical specifications for a new product or a change to an existing product, designing robust components, housings, and assemblies, and performing tolerance studies, computer simulations, or other technical activities required to ensure product quality. You will conduct design reviews to demonstrate product robustness and manufacturability, write test plans, execute design tests, and review test results. Additionally, you will prepare and maintain project notebooks and related documentation, generate and maintain accurate bills of material, estimate labor and material for new projects, qualify custom part vendors, and coordinate engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing colleagues. Mentoring and directing the efforts of interns, designers, and technicians will also be part of your responsibilities.
