The Mechanical Engineer position within the Science and Technology (S&T) organization is responsible for supporting the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems and components for electro-mechanical combination and medical device products. This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and the ability to apply them to solve complex engineering problems. Primary goals, objectives and functions include: Design and develop mechanical systems and components to meet project specifications. Conduct analysis and testing to ensure the reliability and performance of mechanical designs. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical systems.

  • Elevates AbbVie's device development (execution and procedures). This includes the identification and leadership of improvement initiatives and connecting unrelated concepts to refine and/or replace our products and processes.
  • Conduct analyses (e.g. calculations, tolerance analysis, etc.) as needed to improve product and component designs.
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure product performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with external device partner teams to optimize designs for production and support manufacturing production.
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on mechanical designs.
  • Ensure compliance with Medical Device industry standards and regulations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct effective root cause analysis to investigate issues relating to Electro-Mechanical products and associated processes.
  • Verification testing (planning, fixture development, test method validation, protocol development, and test execution).
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering AND Two (2)+ years in the Medical Device, Engineering or Pharmaceutical Industry in relevant device development.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering AND Five (5)+ years in the Medical Device, Engineering or Pharmaceutical Industry in relevant device development.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo CAD software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analyses.
