About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer at Vertiv Corporation will primarily focus on the design and development of Static Transfer Switch (STS) and Power Distribution Unit (PDU) products. This role involves reviewing requirements and specifications, providing constructive feedback, and utilizing 3D CAD software to create innovative product designs. The designs will be meticulously documented in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software to facilitate the release of drawings and bills of material. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will lead both concept and detailed design phases of power systems, which include components such as sheet metal, busbars, power cables, and wire harnesses. You will be responsible for developing complex drawings and bills of material, which may include 2D drawings and Model Based Design (MBD) for mechanical designs. Collaboration with other Mechanical Engineers is essential to efficiently break down tasks, discuss design ideas, and work towards optimal solutions. In addition to design responsibilities, you will write, submit, and release change orders for both new and existing products within our PLM system, ensuring adherence to our revision control protocols. You will also request and review analyses for seismic, CFD, and thermal designs while collaborating with our internal simulation team. Working closely with manufacturing engineers and production associates, you will guide the building of prototypes and provide necessary direction. Familiarity with industry design standards such as UL, NEC, and IEC is crucial for applying these standards to product designs. You will also be tasked with ordering parts and components to support prototype builds and production, creating customer-facing product submittal drawings for completed designs, and assisting in prototype and product testing, particularly in areas related to thermal, mechanical layout, and mechanical strength issues. Supporting manufacturing with build issues of new designs and maintaining occasional contact with outside vendors and suppliers will also be part of your role. Furthermore, you will identify areas that require process improvement or documentation and collaborate with management to implement these improvements.
