About The Position

Mechanical Engineer – Valve Design In this position, you will play a key technical role within the Engineering Group, supporting advanced power plant programs including Generation IV reactors, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), and the existing nuclear fleet in both domestic and international markets. This position requires deep understanding of industrial valve design, with particular emphasis on control valves and flow control equipment used in high-pressure, high-temperature steam and water applications typical of nuclear power generation. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in industrial valve design, preferably in nuclear, fossil power, or high-energy fluid systems
  • Strong understanding of control valve design and steam/water flow applications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pressure boundary calculations and mechanical analysis highly preferred
  • Familiarity with nuclear quality requirements and industry standards preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of valves and flow control equipment from conceptual design through detailed engineering and production release
  • Apply strong knowledge of valve fundamentals including pressure boundary design, internal trim design, actuator integration, sealing technologies, materials selection, and thermal/pressure loading considerations
  • Design and modify control valves for precise regulation of steam and water systems, including analysis of flow characteristics, cavitation, flashing, vibration, and erosion
  • Develop and execute qualification and validation test programs in accordance with applicable nuclear and industry standards
  • Support product improvement initiatives, failure investigations, and root cause analysis
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and project engineering teams to ensure designs are robust, manufacturable, and compliant
  • Interpret and apply ASME and other relevant codes and standards applicable to nuclear pressure boundary components
  • Generate engineering documentation including calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, and procedures
  • work with minimal supervision, exercising sound engineering judgment while following established procedures and developing new processes where required
