About The Position

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on the R&D team at PerkinElmer, you will join a diverse group of 700 professionals dedicated to all phases of the product development lifecycle. Your role will focus on implementing product improvements for laboratory instruments, engaging in sustaining engineering projects from root cause analysis to design and performance monitoring. You will work on complex systems that include electromechanical, fluidic, thermal, optical, and acoustic sub-systems, ensuring high performance in challenging environments. This position is predominantly on-site in Woburn, MA, with occasional remote work permitted with supervisor approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of product support experience, or a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience with sketch-based CAD modeling and PLM/database file management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with mechanical drawing best practices using ASME & ANSI standards.
  • Experience with CAPA management and workflow.
  • Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis for assemblies and interfaces.
  • Experience with mid-high complexity electromechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with Quality Control processes and ISO 9001.
  • Experience with precision machined parts, molded parts, and ceramic components.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with risk management including dFMEA, pFMEA, DOE, DFM.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience managing regulated products (FDA Class II / IVD instrument preferred) and familiarity with ISO 13485.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify challenges and opportunities for improving design and manufacturing of ultrasound-based instrumentation.
  • Utilize root cause analysis techniques to isolate issues and propose solutions for workflow, cost, manufacturability, and performance improvements.
  • Design and document mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Develop testing plans and execute them to evaluate solution implementation and verify problem resolution.
  • Conduct cross-functional reviews and document design solutions, test plans, and verification reports.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams and external vendors to ensure high-quality components meet design specifications.
  • Work with quality assurance to ensure print specifications are inspectable and update prints as necessary.
  • Execute change orders in the eQMS system.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for various stakeholders, including executive management.
  • Assess design and process solutions for risk management using FMEA.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable ANSI, ASME, and SBS standards.
