Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Principal Mechanical Engineer. This position is located in Colorado Springs, CO or Manhattan Beach, CA and supports the Sentinel program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of experience, 0 years of experience with a Master's degree for Mechanical Engineer level
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience, or 3 years of experience with a Master's degree; 4 years of experience with PhD for Principal Mechanical Engineer level
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time
  • Experience performing CAD modeling with design tools such as Siemens NX or similar
  • Experience performing mechanical design efforts on MILCON, major infrastructure/building projects, or Aerospace and Defense programs
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of tools - Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Ability to understand and interpret requirements

  • Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts
  • Exposure to missiles program requirements & with propulsion
  • Proficient with 3D design/2D drawing CAD in NX
  • Proficient with PDM and/or CPLM
  • Proficient with GD&T and ASME Y14.5-2009

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and coordinating mechanical systems design
  • Evaluating mechanical systems, products, components, and applications by reviewing designs
  • Ensuring product quality by reviewing mechanical designs and validating that current standards are applied
  • Supporting the delivery of Mechanical Systems design Technical Data Packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts
  • Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues
  • Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline
  • Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities
  • Developing and maturing Mechanical System designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations
