About The Position

Apptronik is building robots for the real world to improve human quality of life and to help solve the ever-increasing labor shortage problem. Our team has been building some of the most advanced robots on the planet for years, dating back to the DARPA Robotics Challenge. We apply our expertise across the full robotics stack to some of the most important and impactful problems our society faces, and expect our products and technology to change the world for the better. We value passion, creativity, and collaboration to help us overcome existing technological barriers in the industry to create truly innovative products. You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it. JOB SUMMARY Apptronik is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Packaging to support the development of our next-generation humanoid robotic system. This role will focus on driving the design and execution of innovative packaging, protective structures, and surface finishes that support both functional performance and high-quality industrial design . You’ll work closely with mechanical engineering, industrial design, and robotic hardware teams to ensure that prototype and production packaging solutions meet durability, manufacturability, and aesthetic requirements. As a key contributor in a fast-paced environment, you’ll help bridge the gap between technical feasibility and design excellence as we transform advanced robotics into real-world products.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical engineering foundation with experience in packaging design, protective housings, enclosures, or similar structural components.
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, Fusion 360) including surfacing and design-for-manufacture techniques.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience prototyping and testing mechanical components.
  • Understanding of material properties, finish techniques, fastening methods, and enclosure sealing/gasketing approaches.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate design intent clearly through drawings and documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical or packaging design with a strong track record of prototype development and production preparation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing for robotics, wearables, consumer electronics, or other compact electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of injection molding, machining, additive manufacturing, and production-scale tooling approaches.
  • Familiarity with IP sealing, shock absorption, thermal management, or EMI considerations.
  • Experience transitioning products from prototype to high-volume production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop packaging solutions — including structural housings, covers, internal component packaging, thermal and sealing features — for robotic hardware prototypes and future production builds.
  • Partner with industrial designers to ensure packaging designs maintain the intended visual and tactile qualities while enabling robust assembly and performance.
  • Own CAD development for packaging components, from concept models through prototype iterations and production-ready data.
  • Conduct mechanical assessments such as tolerance stack-ups, fastening strategy, drop/impact considerations, and environmental protection.
  • Support material selection, surface treatments, finishes, and branding integration for both internal prototype builds and external commercial readiness.
  • Collaborate with hardware and manufacturing teams to ensure packaging solutions are cost-effective, scalable, and optimized for assembly and serviceability.
  • Maintain clear documentation and act as a communication bridge across mechanical, design, and manufacturing stakeholders.
