Your role at a glance As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at NTT Global Data Centers Americas, you will be an expert leader in the Technical Operations team across the nation, leading critical mechanical engineering assignments and ensuring the high-performance operation of our data center facilities. Building on your extensive experience, you will direct and manage complex mechanical engineering projects from concept to execution. Your technical expertise will be instrumental in providing direction and mentorship to mid-level and entry-level mechanical engineers. Working closely with cross-functional teams throughout North America, you will drive continuous improvement and innovation for the mechanical infrastructure at all NTT GDCA data centers. In this senior role, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of the Technical Operations team and drive excellence in our data center operations.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge in HVAC systems and equipment, including chillers, CRAHs, CRACs, MAUs, RTUs, and more.
  • Comprehensive and practical analytical skills to correctly identify the problem, determine the root cause, and provide sound business solutions.
  • Able to work autonomously and in a changing environment.
  • Subject Matter expert in mechanical systems, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles.
  • Proficient with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and analysis.
  • Strong ability to optimize and fine-tune mechanical systems for maximum efficiency.
  • Comprehensive understanding of data center infrastructure and its integration with mechanical systems.
  • Leadership and mentorship skills for guiding junior engineers.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, BlueBeam
  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, or equivalent combination of education and professional background.
  • Expert-level understanding of HVAC equipment operation in a mission critical environment.
  • Working knowledge of control systems.
  • Able to hear and speak on a telephone/videoconferencing.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be willing to occasionally work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, and early mornings to maintain communication with our global partners and counterparts in the organization.
  • This is a remote position that requires reliable internet connection and electricity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee complex mechanical engineering projects nationwide, from concept to execution, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Utilizes engineering assessment, judgment, and analysis to choose the most appropriate course of action.
  • Provides technical direction and mentorship to mid-level and entry-level mechanical engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the nation to drive continuous improvement and innovation for data center infrastructure and mechanical systems.
  • Utilize a diverse array of data sources, information channels, and tools (including BMS, EPMS, equipment submittals, design drawings, CFD software, etc.) to address intricate challenges impacting data center equipment and systems, such as CRAHs, CRACs, Chillers, AHUs, MAUs, and humidifiers.
  • As the mechanical systems subject matter expert, demonstrates proficiency in applying the Sequence of Operations (SOO) in both typical and atypical operational contexts.
  • Assess client expansions and sales opportunities to guarantee that the standard data center design aligns with contractual mechanical specifications, encompassing IT load densities, cooling requirements, deployment layout, airflow balance, and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Gather energy efficiency data, analyze trends to evaluate the impact of implemented measures, and provide recommendations for future actions.
  • Set efficiency targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) for data center equipment and systems.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of relevant HVAC and mechanical standards, such as ASHRAE, ASME, and Uptime, and their practical application to data center operations.
  • Remain actively engaged in emerging trends and best practices pertaining to mechanical systems and data center operations.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for urgent mechanical issues during emergency situations and provide technical support for on-site operations as needed.
  • Additionally, offer technical supervision for the Change Advisory Board (CAB) to minimize customer impacts.
  • Produce and present technical reports and updates to senior management (and occasionally clients), aiming to effectively communicate complex technical details. These reports offer insights into the normal and abnormal states of our mechanical infrastructure, ensuring a thorough understanding.
  • Occasionally, travel to the data centers to address specific technical challenges to support the local operations team.
