About The Position

We are excited to offer a unique internship opportunity for aspiring Mechanical Engineers to join our team in person from June through August 2026 in downtown Boston, MA. In our Boston office, we concentrate on process technology development and engineering work in the areas of chemicals, renewables, biofuels, and circular process technologies. Technology development activities are also carried out in a 19,000 square foot laboratory in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The Mechanical Equipment and Piping Engineering Intern will support the engineering team in the design, analysis, and implementation of mechanical and piping systems. This role provides a valuable opportunity for hands-on experience in a professional engineering environment, allowing the co-op student to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world projects. The ideal candidate will be a motivated engineering student with a strong interest in mechanical and piping systems.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program or higher in Mechanical Engineering ; preference given to candidates with expected graduations in 2027 or 2028.
  • Strong academic performance and a solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • Exposure to CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and piping systems, including design, analysis, and materials
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of mechanical and piping system designs using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Prepare detailed drawings, schematics, and layouts for mechanical and piping components.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to support various engineering projects, including new installations, upgrades, and maintenance of mechanical and piping systems.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to the development of project plans and schedules.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and analysis under the direction of senior engineers to support design decisions; including stress analysis, fluid dynamics, and thermal analysis.
  • Assist in the selection of materials and components based on project requirements and industry standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and manuals.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines, such as electrical, civil, and structural engineers, to ensure integrated and cohesive project outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, contractors, and clients to facilitate project success.
