You will play a key role by assisting Engineers with multiple tasks involving the mechanical engineering functions in the Design or Research & Development teams. Through this position, you will help to develop component and system designs, determine failure trends, perform failure analysis, or support vehicle component and performance testing.

  • Creating problem definitions and requirements for component & subsystem design based on consultation with customers, suppliers and internal departments.
  • Design solutions for the vehicle based on component and subsystem requirements, prepare and present solutions to project leadership.
  • Prepare vehicle component layouts using CREO, CATIA, or other CAD software.
  • Select components for quality conscious design (weight, cost, reliability, ease of manufacturing, etc.).
  • Follow design projects on the assembly floor for prototype, pilot, or production build, and provide technical assistance.
  • Generate engineering calculations for weight distribution, stress analysis, performance estimations, etc.
  • Create test requests based on part and subsystem requirements, develop timeline and support plan for tests. Actively assist in the testing of vehicles or vehicle components to satisfy requirements.
  • Develop and utilize mathematical reliability models.
  • Analyze field warranty data and prototype test data for failure trends, use Jira and other software to track problems and communicate solution progress to the project team.
  • Establish requirements for testing of vehicles and associated components (if working in R&D).
  • Create test plans, recommend resources of equipment necessary to accomplish the test, and formulate test project estimates (if working in R&D).
  • Conceive necessary fixtures and test apparatus and supervise their construction and implementation (if working in R&D).
  • Coordinate, supervise, and monitor testing, including data collection and analysis (if working in R&D).
  • Recommend corrective actions needed to maintain schedule and cost targets (if working in R&D).
  • Communicate status and results of tests to internal departments, suppliers, and customers (if working in R&D).
  • Student working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field.
  • Willing to travel or relocate to Oshkosh, WI for the duration of the summer 2025 internship.
  • Summer housing is available to interns whose permanent address is greater than 50 miles from their work location.
