About The Position

The Mechanical Engineering Co-op for Cooper Tire, a Goodyear company, offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of mechanical engineering. This position is designed for currently enrolled students majoring in Mechanical Engineering who have completed at least their freshman year. The co-op will involve developing and testing machinery and equipment under the guidance of a plant engineer and/or senior engineers. Students will be given pertinent work assignments that allow them to work independently while also being paired with a coach or mentor to enhance their learning experience. In this role, co-op students will review project instructions and blueprints to determine test specifications, procedures, objectives, and the nature of technical problems. They will be responsible for drafting detail drawings or sketches for completion in the drafting room or to request parts fabrication. Additionally, students will devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical components for various products, including industrial equipment and machinery. The co-op will also involve setting up and conducting tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals aimed at improving equipment performance. Students will analyze test results in relation to design specifications and make necessary modifications to meet those specifications. They will be required to record test procedures, results, and recommendations for changes in products or test methods. This position may also require performing other duties as necessary to ensure efficient plant operations, providing a comprehensive learning experience in a real-world engineering environment.
