As a Mechanical Engineer – Industrial/Manufacturing Expert, you will investigate incidents involving equipment, safety products/procedures, material handling, hand tools, & plant layouts. You will analyze inadequacies in machine guarding, instructions, warnings, or personal protective equipment (PPE), etc., applying your comprehensive knowledge of standards and practices. Your role will also involve writing clear, scientifically sound reports and providing expert testimony. You will delve into the 'why' behind incidents, critically assessing decision-making, operational procedures, and the standard of care.   • Investigate incidents involving equipment, safety products/procedures, material handling, hand tools, & plant layouts.
  • Analyze inadequacies in machine guarding, instructions, warnings, or personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Write clear, scientifically sound reports.
  • Provide expert testimony.
  • Critically assess decision-making, operational procedures, and the standard of care.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering and/or a closely-related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure in at least one state within six months.
  • 10+ years of manufacturing and production experience, including design, installation, start-up, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Expertise in design or specification of industrial equipment, material handling equipment, industrial facility operation and maintenance processes, and utility systems.
  • Experience and training in reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), root cause failure analysis, site incident investigations, and hazard analysis/risk assessments is desirable.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of 40-60 projects/clients.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel about 20% on average.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive.
  • Prior forensic experience is not required.
  • Experience in reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
  • Training in failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience in root cause failure analysis.
  • Experience in site incident investigations.
  • Experience in hazard analysis/risk assessments.
