About The Position

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer III to join our team at our office in Burlington, Massachusetts. In this role, you will perform the design of the mechanical (HVAC) systems, including but not limited to: air distribution ductwork systems, hot water, chilled water and condenser water pumping and piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, central plants, air handling systems, dehumidification systems, automatic control systems and ancillary heat transfer systems for pharmaceutical, biotech, and life science facilities.

Requirements

  • 4-8 years of Engineering/design experience in the building design industry (for example: HVAC systems and Utility Generation equipment).
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year College or University.
  • Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and CAD drafting (AutoCAD/Revit).
  • Thorough knowledge of Mechanical (HVAC) system design and applicable codes.
  • Experience with software for performing load calculations and energy analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • EIT or Professional engineer (PE).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in engineering studies and schematic design for new mechanical systems and analyze the operation of existing systems.
  • Analyze existing HVAC and utility generation systems and equipment, and determine applicability for use in renovation projects.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering and energy savings calculations, including IESVE, Carrier HAP, and eQUEST.
  • Assist Project Lead with design computations and quantity estimates, and develop probable construction cost estimates.
  • Perform the role of Project Lead for less complex projects within the business unit.
  • Select equipment based on recommendations of the Project Lead, and fill out equipment schedules.
  • Research design options and document findings for the Project Lead.
  • Keep the Project Lead and/or Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
  • Research code issues and communicate with code officials, as well as other disciplines.
  • Make clear, well-organized, and effective presentations to technical audiences.
  • Ensure that drawings and designs are per company's quality, production, and design standards.
  • Mentor, support, and guide new Engineers or early-career professionals with project execution.
  • Make calculations, using engineering formulas and skills for design such as duct sizing and pressure drop calculations, air balance calculations, and equipment sizing.
  • Create specialized drawings, such as operations matrices, elevations, details, and diagrams.
  • Perform additional tasks or special projects as assigned.
