The position is based onsite full-time in New Haven, CT, and is integral to shaping the future of connected living through the design and implementation of advanced access control solutions. The primary responsibilities include leading product design and implementation through CAD design, team reviews, prototyping, testing, and production implementation. The engineer will utilize various manufacturing processes such as plastic and rubber injection molding, sheet metal, and metal casting. Additionally, the role involves generating and completing new product ideas, product improvements, and cost reduction initiatives based on market needs. Close collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential, particularly in incorporating electronics and wiring management into the design process. Validation of designs will be conducted through theoretical analysis, tolerance stacks, and software tools like FEA, alongside practical testing based on industry standards. The Mechanical Engineer III will also guide junior engineers through product development projects, review technical documentation, and implement best practices in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing to ensure designs are easily interpretable by external suppliers. This position requires a proactive approach to working closely with vendors to facilitate the transition of designs into production, ensuring that all products meet regulatory standards and customer expectations.
