About The Position

The Vision Systems Mechanical engineering team is responsible for all mechanical engineering tasks related to the design, analysis, test, certification, installation and sustainment of aerospace head-up display (HUD), helmet and headworn display (HHD) and guidance products. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, testing, and documenting hardware while working under the guidance of senior engineers. This role involves collaboration across engineering disciplines, contributing to design optimization, and ensuring product functionality, manufacturability, and reliability. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical, analytical, and communication skills while thriving in a process-oriented development environment.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and processes.
  • Familiarity with basic stress and strain theory and thermal management design.
  • Proficiency in a 3D CAD solid modeling software package (SolidWorks and/or UG NX preferred).
  • Basic understanding of tolerance analysis and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles.
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with designing packaging of electronic and/or optical systems
  • Experience with designing manufacturing, calibration and test support equipment.
  • Familiarity with Aluminum fabrication techniques, including machining & investment casting
  • Familiarity with FEA software package (ANSYS preferred)
  • Background in the avionics or aerospace industry

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, test and document hardware under guidance of more senior engineers.
  • Perform duties within a process-oriented development system.
  • Collaborate with team leaders and other engineering disciplines to complete designs that align with documented hardware requirements.
  • Contribute to schedule creation and ensure schedule commitments are met.
  • Create and present program and/or task status presentations to team members.
  • Create and present clear and concise technical descriptions to team members.
  • Participate in design and document reviews.
  • Contribute to investigations of open-ended, complex problems.
  • Develop designs that optimize weight, volume, cost and manufacturability while meeting structural, thermal and other environmental and functional requirements.
  • Partner with drafting team to provide technical content for drawing creation.
