S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Underground-Product Engineering department. As a Mechanical Engineer II, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. S&C is the specialist in high-voltage switching, protection and control, providing products for the electric power industry since 1911. Product Engineering - Underground is responsible for S&C's underground distribution products, including PMG, Vista UDS, and Vista SD. In this position you will report to the Assistant Manager - Product Engineering in the Underground group. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide engineering support to sourcing projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in product engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or sourcing environment.
  • Experience with PPAP and DFMEA.
  • Expert proficiency in CAD. Experience with Solid Edge preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, stamping, injection molding, etc.
  • Expert proficiency in GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Understanding of materials and design considerations based on environmental performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under tight timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure product and component designs are optimized for manufacturability, cost, and quality.
  • Collaborate with design teams to translate requirements into supplier-ready documentation.
  • Review and approve supplier proposals and engineering change requests.
  • Review and validate PPAP submissions from suppliers, ensuring alignment with design intent.
  • Support dimensional analysis, material certification, and functional testing as part of PPAP.
  • Drive resolution of PPAP-related issues and ensure timely approvals.
  • Work closely with sourcing, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, and as needed in supplier assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of design changes, PPAP approvals, and engineering tests.
  • Preparing detailed drawings used for purposes of supplier quotations, manufacturing, and final assembly.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Capture, share, and apply lessons learned to future projects.
