Systel, Inc. designs and manufactures ruggedized computing solutions for mission-critical environments. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to support the design, development, and sustainment of electro-mechanical systems from concept through production. You are a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys turning requirements into real, manufacturable hardware. You are comfortable working across the full product lifecycle, from early concept and prototyping to production support and sustaining engineering. You value quality, design, and collaboration, and you take ownership of your work while supporting customers and internal teams. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with 2–4 years of relevant experience in electro-mechanical packaging OR Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 0–1 years of relevant experience OR Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or equivalent) with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD or equivalent solid modeling software
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies, prototyping, and manufacturing support

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing ruggedized or industrial electro-mechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, forming, welding, and plastic molding
  • Familiarity with environmental considerations such as shock, vibration, temperature, and humidity
  • Exposure to FEA, stress analysis, or thermal analysis
  • Understanding of ASME Y14 drawing standards and ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments
  • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and commitment to quality and customer satisfaction

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electro-mechanical products including rugged computers, displays, test equipment, and related peripherals
  • Manage assigned phases of product development including requirements interpretation, design reviews, prototype builds, and production readiness
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation such as assembly instructions, part and assembly drawings, cable drawings, ICDs, and test plans
  • Support prototype builds, capture design data, and implement improvements through the Engineering Change process
  • Interface with document management systems to release and revise engineering documentation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Customer Service
  • Support Manufacturing during production and provide sustaining engineering support for released products
  • Assist with internal service requests, production issues, and customer support activities
  • Participate in design reviews, quality meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability, Cost, and Quality best practices to meet project goals and schedules
  • This role may include additional responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational goals.
