The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. The ME team strives to be the premier organization for mechanical design and development through our world class people and technology - creating trusted, innovative solutions to make the world a safer place. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. Within the ME Organization, the Undersea, Sensors & Structures (USS) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of a set of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers. The USS department is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer II, located in Portsmouth, RI.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design, documentation and fabrication.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea systems and electronics packaging.
  • Knowledge of design for long term submergence, sealing, and corrosion resistance.
  • Experience on DoD programs.
  • Experience with PTC CREO and PDM.
  • Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience.
  • Experience managing financial and schedule performance of mechanical tasking.
  • Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems while working as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with configuration management systems.
  • Experience with 3-D modeling software
  • Experience with creating engineering drawings/prints
  • Experience with metal fabrication and/or assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts), or welding and/or bonding.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Validate design fit and functionality by rapid prototyping and/or simulation
  • Support the factory and suppliers with product integration
  • Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
  • Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required.
  • International and longer duration travel assignments are available but optional
