The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon's Six Sigma principles. ME's capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support. The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer II to join the LTAMDS Radar Infrastructure team, located in Tewksbury, MA. This is an onsite role.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with designing and/or developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments.
  • Experience with 3D CAD design tools and/or related product data management tools.
  • Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of engineering drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.
  • Experience in design, fabrication, and integration of structures and mechanisms.
  • Experience in component integration and packaging, such as support bracketry design.
  • Experience with metal fabrication (machining, sheet metal) and assembly joining techniques (fasteners, welding).

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
  • Develop mechanical designs from initial concept to formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models) and culminating in initial builds, testing, transition to production, and production support.
  • Work through engineering problems associated with large structures, welded assemblies, component integration, mechanisms, power and cooling systems, electronic assemblies.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines such as Materials Engineering, Quality Engineering, Safety, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Whole Life Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Interconnects, among others.
  • Support the factory and suppliers with product integration.
  • Create work instructions, drill fixtures, and other tools to support retrofits.
  • Awareness of Thermal, Structural, Dynamic, and Reliability analysis to provide inputs and support.
  • Incorporate results and findings into mechanical design.
  • Perform tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
  • Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
  • Work with suppliers for component part selections and developments to procure solutions that fit within design constraints and requirements.
  • Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
  • Release initial designs and process engineering changes through PTC-Windchill PDM (Product Data Management).
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast-paced, team environment.
