The Mechanical Engineering department leads in the mechanical hardware design, development, and production of weapons systems. We use state-of-the-art tools, processes, and technology, with capabilities encompassing a broad range of technical disciplines, including product engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials engineering, analysis and test, rapid hardware development/builds and configuration and data management documentation. The Mechanical Products Team is seeking a CAD Design Engineer in the Shipboard Effectors Department. The position is located on-site in Tucson, AZ What You Will Do: The candidate will design major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using computer design and engineering systems. Develops or improves products, test equipment, or manufacturing processes. Develops data and makes parametric models, layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs. They will solve routine problems of varying scope and complexity following established policies and procedures with minimal direction or supervision.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or in absence of a degree, an additional 2 years of experience is required.
  • 2 years of experience with CREO Parametric (Pro/Engineer) solid modeling CAD software or similar (SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of basic principles, theories, and concepts for creation and preparation of engineering design documentation
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to perform tasks such as preparation/changes to drawings/models and create new 3D models and drawings with general direction
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) including simple tolerance analysis
  • Interpret, apply, and make decisions regarding the application of documentation specification such as MIL-STD-31000, Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100
  • Knowledge of mechanical fabrication processes and techniques
