About The Position

At STERIS, we help our Customers create a healthier and safer world by providing innovative healthcare and life science product and service solutions around the globe.Position Summary The Mechanical Engineer I will join a fast-paced RSS consumables R D team developing new consumables products. You will interact with other engineering disciplines and cross functional team member during the development lifecycle phases from concept development through final release.   The Mechanical Engineer I position will utilize problem solving techniques and engineering principals such as statics, machine design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, material selection and fabrication to develop solutions for medical equipment. You will be involved in 3D Modeling, Design Controls documentation, Design Verification Testing and hands-on prototyping while developing new and innovative solutions for our customers.   This position is based in our Eden Prairie, MN location. 5% Domestic travel required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree is Engineering required.
  • 1 year of Mechanical Engineering experience - relevant internship experience is considered.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid organizational, planning and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • 3D Modeling experience.
  • Basic engineering analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of basic drawing practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous STERIS internship experience is helpful.
  • Med-tech experience
  • FEA experience (ANSYS).
  • Pressure vessel design experience.
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic system experience.
  • Experience with PLM systems.
  • Product testing and validation experience.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication and welding.
  • Prior cost model development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems using 3D modeling software and analysis.
  • Develop hydraulic and pneumatic system designs and generate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineers, designers and technicians to ensure that all design aspects are aligned with the program's goals.
  • Participate in product verification and validation actions.
  • Communicate technical information to management.
  • Work with outside vendors to ensure components used are appropriate for use, delivered on time and optimized from a TCO standpoint.
  • Create drawings and bill of materials for assemblies and individual components.
  • Create technical documents for testing, crating, shipping, installation etc.
