About the position

The Battery Mechanical Engineer will play a crucial role in the local electric vehicle (EV) project, focusing on the development and localization of mechanical parts for high voltage battery systems. This position involves coordinating with local partners and counterparts in Germany to ensure project delivery, meet milestones, and maintain quality standards throughout the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate development and release aspects for mechanical parts in the high voltage battery system.
  • Ensure technical understanding of products planned for the North American region.
  • Identify gaps to meet market requirements for localized products.
  • Manage localized parts from a technical perspective, ensuring alignment with the design team in Germany.
  • Work closely with purchasing and production teams to ensure parts localization and industrialization.
  • Manage local parts suppliers to ensure technical requirements are met and conduct necessary evaluations and tests.
  • Support high voltage battery pack integration into vehicles and assist with aftersales diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Initiate and support regional engineering changes for the HV battery to improve quality or reduce costs.
  • Support local production processes for electric vehicles and HV battery systems in the Chattanooga Factory.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with electric vehicle system development or vehicle systems mechanical design.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in vehicle system development and integration.
  • Experience with automotive mechanical parts development, testing, and release.
  • Experience in vehicle components suppliers technical management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in vehicle systems integration.
  • Experience with vehicle level component or sub-systems testing/releasing.
  • Knowledge of electrical vehicle and high voltage systems.
  • German and/or Spanish language skills, written and verbal.
