The Mechanical Engineer, Fluid Systems / Piping position at Bath Iron Works involves supporting the design, construction, and testing of fluid systems and equipment specifically for naval surface combatants. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles, particularly in fluid mechanics, to ensure the effective design and implementation of piping and auxiliary systems. The engineer will be responsible for providing technical and project leadership for assigned systems, which includes developing and maintaining equipment specifications, diagrams, and associated calculations. In addition to technical responsibilities, the position involves supporting construction activities, which encompass ship testing, system activation, and participation in sea trials. The engineer will interface with customers to resolve technical issues, recommend changes, and maintain effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. A critical aspect of the role is to develop, document, and present technical positions on compliance issues related to design and construction within the assigned area of cognizance. The engineer will also create Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) models to simulate ship system designs and perform necessary analyses and calculations using CAE applications. Participation in integrated product and process teams is expected, where the engineer will help develop and define ship system engineering requirements and relate them to top-level performance requirements. This position is essential for ensuring that the fluid systems and piping designs meet the rigorous standards required for naval operations.
