Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a mechanical engineer (entry level) for our site in Kings Bay, Georgia. Under direction of senior personnel, the candidate will provide mechanical engineering research and design requirement support for the assembly/disassembly, test, onload/offload of Trident II D5 missiles and missile subassemblies inside of restricted access areas alongside our Navy customer, various LM organizations, and appropriate contractors. Operations are conducted in ordnance processing buildings at Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic (SWFLANT), Kings Bay, Georgia. The candidate will perform investigative research to develop solutions to mechanical anomalies/failures discovered during the processing of missile hardware (issues related to propulsion, structures, ordnance, controls, avionics, and reentry hardware, SU operations, missile packs/unpacks, etc.) based on design requirements and subsequently propose those resolutions for action. Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop design recommendations as required in order to correct/resolve difficult and complex anomalies. Must be able to lead engineering evaluations for new design changes, documentation, equipment, processes, or capabilities as required and document technical investigations in reports and provide status to management. In order to fulfill this position, the individual must be able to obtain Material Review Board (MRB) certification within 2 years. Must be willing to work around ordnance, shift work, and overtime as required.

Requirements

  • BSME from an ABET accredited college or an engineering degree in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret Security clearance. Cannot be a dual citizen. Interim Secret clearance required prior to start.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Material Review Board (MRB) certification.
  • Ability and willingness to work around ordnance.
  • Ability and willingness to work shiftwork & overtime.
  • Word, Powerpoint, & Excel computer skills.
  • Effective written & verbal communication skills.
  • US Citizen, no dual citizenship.

  • Demonstrated experience in being proactive and taking initiative with projects/assignments.
  • Demonstrated contributions to project milestones to meet commitments in order to preclude schedule impacts.
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and applying technical knowledge to resolve anomalies.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting technical information.
  • Experience generating procedural documentation and ensuring procedural compliance.
  • Previous experience reading technical drawings, engineering standards, military standards, weapons specifications, and/or ordnance documents.
  • Previous experience working with mechanics, technicians, and/or fabricators.
  • Previous experience working in a customer service environment.
