About The Position

The Airborne Radar Design Department at Raytheon is seeking an early career Mechanical Engineer (Eng I, Mech Engrg) for the Processors and Electronic Packaging section in El Segundo, CA. This role involves electronics packaging design for airborne radar subsystems including Receiver, Exciter, Processor, and Power Supply. The person in this position will provide mechanical engineering support throughout the hardware life cycle, encompassing concept development, preliminary and detail design, selection of precision machining techniques, transition to production, production support, and installation. Typical technologies include electronic enclosures, heat exchangers (coldwalls), machined components, RF microwave assemblies, and power converter units, often with challenging size, weight, power, and cost requirements. The initial assignment will likely focus on the engineering Production Support of an airborne military radar.

Requirements

Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree, or a minimum of 1 year prior relevant experience, to include any combination of the following: Experience with ANSI drawing standards.
Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances).
Experience with electronic packaging.
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency with CREO or similar 3D solid modeling software.
Exposure to RF principles, RF circuit card design, RF materials, manufacturing and producibility.
Exposure to high-frequency environments, enclosure design, EMI shielding, and thermal management.
Exposure to manufacturing processes for CCAs, metal housings, and brazements, or experience in manufacturing and assembly support.
Strong technical background with high technical aptitude.
Hands-on mechanical project experience.
Current DoD security clearance.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support on major programs and interface with Lead Mechanical Engineers and Chief Engineers to support design objectives.
Contribute to project teams through design development and will be expected to ensure that the established procedures are followed in the creation of technical data packages, while meeting program design objectives.
Work from requirements to help develop unit design concepts and perform design trades.
Contribute to developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems.
Complete detailed layouts and design documentation using Computer Aided Design tools.
Provide support to suppliers who are fabricating components and assemblies.
