As a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training at Tetra Tech, you will contribute to the design of mechanical systems for various facilities, including industrial, commercial, wastewater, and water facilities. This role involves working closely with project managers and mechanical leadership to develop design documents, perform calculations, and assist in construction administration. You will have opportunities for professional growth while collaborating with a dynamic team of engineers and specialists.

  • Support the development of mechanical system design from concept phase through construction under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, energy models, life cycle cost analysis, and ventilation calculations in compliance with applicable codes and energy efficiency standards.
  • Size equipment and develop layouts for HVAC (airside and hydronic) and plumbing systems.
  • Review and edit construction specifications using MasterSpec for each applicable project.
  • Participate in construction administration, including responding to contractor RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and handling construction submittals.
  • Conduct construction site field observations and prepare punch lists during various stages of construction.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • 0-4 years of experience. Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is recommended but not required.
  • REVIT/BIM and AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with building codes, ASHRAE design manuals and guides, and USGBC LEED requirements, specifically for new or existing facilities.
  • Basic knowledge of building mechanical equipment is desired, including fans, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, chilled and hot water loops, boilers, motors, pumps, variable speed drives, direct digital temperature controls, and building automation systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive can-do attitude.
  • LEED and/or CDT certification is desired but not required.
