About The Position

Position: · On site position with schedule flexibility to support production operations for first and/or second shift. Typically, 07:30 to 17:30 time band with possibility of remote work in special situations when approved. · A person with a technical background on 3D CAD software, aluminum extrusions, sheet metal, metal fabrication, welding, and metal stamping, CNC machining on 3- and 4-axis machines, and finishing processes including powder coating, anodizing, zinc plating, nickel plating, etc., plastic injection molding, aluminum high pressure die casting and gravity casting. · Research, develops, designs, plans, and tests mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. Products | GCX Medical Mounting Solutions · Oversees, coordinates, and supports activities involved in development, fabrication, operation, application, installation, repair and change of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. · Provides technical and manufacturing support to purchasing/supply chain, receiving, quality assurance, quality control, EPM (machine shop), ELP (assembly), configuration management, and shipping departments as well as suppliers. Responsibilities (but not limited to): · Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or applications. · Plans and oversees engineering/manufacturing personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products and systems. Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications. · Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for design data processing and for developing alternative designs, socialize designs, CAD and drawings with suppliers. · Creates and modifies artwork needed for labels, brochures, and customer assembly and operation instructions (IFU – Information for Users) using CAD models for GCX products and customer devices. · Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished- product and process capabilities, establishing standards, and validating and/or verifying manufacturing processes. · Develop positive relationships and work closely with functional managers to create, manage, and implement on-going verification plans. · Act as consultant to the Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams to improve Quality and Manufacturing processes including changes to processes and products, including engineering and supplier changes and product transfers. · Provide Engineering expertise requiring advanced/specialized skills and a broad range of quality engineering expertise. · Understand and drive Lean Manufacturing internally and with suppliers. · Support product designs as it relates to the manufacturability of the product. · Develop new or improved manufacturing and testing processes, constantly working to improve systems. · Facilitate the successful launch of new products. · Resolve any manufacturing and supplier quality concerns. · Responsible for the creation of fixtures and development of tools that help with the production of our components and assembled products. · Technical reviewer for engineering documents, test reports, documentation for users, and engineering changes. · Provide leadership and mentorship to projects and other technical workers. · Responsible for Design and Manufacturing Engineering activities to accomplish transfers of GCX products and components to suppliers. · A technical leader on the team that works to advance all aspects of the project. · Actively helps develop and advance business processes related to the role. · Initializes and develops Engineering Change Notification (ECNs) activities. · Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research/testing, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; working with suppliers and internal machine shops and soliciting observations from operators. · Participate in RFQ process including assembling RFQ package technical content and quote reviews for technical alignment with requirements. · Participate in item and product transfer project schedule/plan development. · Review designs and documentation to assess condition and risks to transfer success. · Collect gap documents and data from existing suppliers. · Lead the remediation of engineering designs & documentation when required by the transfer project and drive the ECNs. · DFA, DFM, and DFMEA collaboration, review, and acceptance with suppliers for tool designs and manufacturing processes. · Collaborate with GCX SQE’s conducting DFQ with suppliers. · Support supplier tool construction process. · Participate in verification process development and reconciliation of results led by GCX SQE. · Establish tool/process correction plans with suppliers to move to next trials. · Support final component and assembly V&V activities. · Participate in team meetings internally and externally.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent (from a recognized university).
  • 7+ years related experience particularly in Engineering in a manufacturing environment with CNC machined components, sheet metal components, finishing over fabricated parts like powder coat, anodize, vinyl coats, and plating processes, product transfers, and technical leadership.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical properties and specifications of standard materials (metal and polymers), fasteners, and hardware.
  • Knowledge of QMS practices (ISO 9001/ ISO 13485) including experience with risk management and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive actions).
  • A resourceful and collaborative leader in cross functional teams addressing issues of complex products and processes.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills, judgment, and problem-solving ability.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and hands-on manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency in CAD systems such as CREO Parametric (ProE) and SolidWorks or similar.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Structural Analysis: evaluation of the strength and behavior of structures under various loads.
  • Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic/Intermediate knowledge Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop or similar graphics designing software.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawings and ASME Y14.5 GD&T or ISO/DIN.
  • Knowledge of QC metrology tools and methods such as measuring instruments and machines (optical comparator, height gage, hardness tester, geometry, surface, CMM Report interpretation).
  • Fluency with mechanical components and mechanical assembly drawings, work instructions, and customer assembly instructions.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies and assembly instructions using standard shop tools, presses, and torque meters.
  • Experience working with external partners, such as contracted resources, suppliers, and manufacturers
