About The Position

HGA is Hiring: Mechanical Engineer with Central Utility Plant Expertise! Bring your talented, design-sensitive, and ambitious expertise to HGA, a nationally recognized architecture, engineering, and design firm. We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team and play a key role in delivering innovative, high-performance solutions across a wide range of project types. In this role, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to projects that span healthcare facilities, corporate headquarters, laboratories, museums, government buildings (local, state, and federal), higher education campuses, and infrastructure improvements. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leadership role on impactful projects and help shape innovative solutions at the intersection of design, technology, and performance.

Requirements

  • Central Utility Plant design and steam systems.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
  • Extensive understanding of standard engineering practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external clients to address complex engineering challenges.
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • 8 years minimum of consulting engineering experience with emphasis on Central Utility Plant design for multiple client types.
  • Professional Engineer registration recognized by a state licensing board.
  • Steam and Hot Water Boiler Plant systems.
  • Chiller plants of 1,000 tons or greater.
  • Revit, BIM, Trane/Trace and Microsoft Office skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in building controls is desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for HVAC engineering design including: calculating heating and cooling loads, select equipment, layout duct and piping, create and edit project details, and write and edit project engineering specifications.
  • Lead client management and team coordination.
  • Participate in design review meetings and workshops.
  • Resolve a variety of complex design challenges including conflicting Owner and project requirements, application of different system types, or challenging field conditions.
  • Research design options and document findings for the project team.
  • Assure drawings and designs are in accordance with local codes and design standards.
  • Coordinate with architectural and engineering disciplines as applicable.
