Position Overview SteerBridge seeks a Mechanical Engineer (CM-M) with HVAC specialization to support Construction Management Services for infrastructure upgrades at Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in support of the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program. This role supports complex, multi-phase construction projects in active healthcare environments and provides technical oversight of HVAC and mechanical systems critical to facility operations and patient care.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required (clearance process)
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation and obtain VA PIV badge
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of six (6) years of HVAC/mechanical experience
  • Experience supporting healthcare or complex facility environments
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, QA/QC, and construction practices

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering support across all project phases
  • Review HVAC designs, equipment submittals, and shop drawings
  • Ensure compliance with VA standards, codes, and project requirements
  • Evaluate system performance, airflow, and environmental controls
  • Review contractor work for compliance with mechanical specifications
  • Identify deficiencies and non-conforming HVAC installations
  • Support RFIs, submittals, and change order reviews
  • Conduct field inspections of HVAC systems and installations
  • Support testing, balancing, and commissioning activities
  • Track deficiencies and ensure resolution
  • Support project scheduling and coordination of mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, and facility teams
  • Assist in resolving technical and coordination issues
  • Maintain mechanical system documentation and records
  • Support reporting, meeting minutes, and project tracking
  • Provide input to leadership and contracting personnel
  • Evaluate construction impacts on HVAC systems within active medical environments
  • Support phasing strategies to maintain patient care and infection control
  • Identify risks related to ventilation, pressurization, and system reliability
