About The Position

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer (Automation) to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Team in Concord, NC. The Successful candidate will be responsible for automated and manual equipment, trouble shooting, and improvements. Working individually or as part of a manufacturing team, specifies and designs new manufacturing systems, troubleshoots and improves existing automation, develops documentation packages and training for process technicians and floor personnel.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must know SolidWorks software or be proficient in similar design package.
  • Must have sound technical knowledge of automated equipment.
  • Must have excellent mechanical skills.
  • Must utilize a methodical approach to problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Must have skills to be hands on in the design, build, and implementation of equipment/components.
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to efficiently summarize information in an effective manner.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as within a variety of teams. Must be highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Strong computer skills: proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience programming robotics beneficial
  • Experience with PLC beneficial.
  • Experience with thermoplastic extrusion or injection molding beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Design new or improve existing automation cells for increased uptime and efficiency.
  • Use SolidWorks to design systems and components to be built by in house tool shop.
  • Specify a variety of new equipment to replace obsolete systems including material handling systems, packaging equipment, assembly machines, etc.
  • Design new tooling for existing processes.
  • Participate in cross-functional Kaizen improvement teams.
  • Work with production team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Work with maintenance to troubleshoot and problem solve production floor issues.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.
