We're currently seeking a talented mechanical engineer with strong experience in HVAC and facilities design. This position is based in our Edison, NJ office and offers a flexible hybrid work environment - balancing time in the office with remote work from home. As a valued member of our Infrastructure and Services Group, you will help advance CDM Smith's mission by: Creating engineering designs including: HVAC systems master planning & studies; HVAC & Plumbing systems; mechanical systems (co-generation); sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings; etc. of basic to moderate complexity to meet client project requirements. Reviewing draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensuring that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs. Reviews of draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and signs off on completed designs. Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs. Performing site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications. Updating design requirements as necessary. Contributing to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Submitting technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals. Attending conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff. Performing other duties such as heating/cooling load calculations, duct/pipe sizing, equipment selections, system layouts, and coordination with other design disciplines.. Providing technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Reviewing the work of more junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
  • 3 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in model and drawing development using Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
