The Mechanical Draftsman position at EMA Engineering & Consulting is an entry-level role designed for individuals with minimal or no design experience. This position is based in various locations including Houston, Tyler, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, and Shreveport. The primary responsibility of the Mechanical Draftsman is to learn and apply EMA's design processes while setting up projects and tracking project deliverables and deadlines. The role emphasizes adherence to EMA's core values and aims to enhance the skills, knowledge, and efficiency of the individual on a weekly basis. The Mechanical Draftsman will work closely with a production team, providing accurate detailed drafting and basic design support. The technical accuracy of the work will be reviewed regularly by the Training Leader, Team Leader, and Department Leader, ensuring continuous improvement and skill development. In this role, the Mechanical Draftsman will be expected to set up all projects with the necessary sheets, views, notes, symbols, details, schedules, and diagrams. They will learn to apply EMA's design processes and understand the requirements set by owners and city regulations. Familiarity with code requirements such as NEC, IESNA, and IECC is essential, as is the ability to set up and edit project specifications. The draftsman will also take design criteria, rough sketches, and discussed ideas to accurately draft the systems onto the drawings. Effective communication with team members, Team Leaders, and Project Managers is crucial for success in this role. Fieldwork is also a component of this position, which may involve site visits to gather information about existing conditions. This could include driving to job sites, extensive walking, climbing ladders, and navigating through various spaces such as crawlspaces and attics.
