About The Position

Symmetrio is recruiting an Mechanical Draftsman for our customer, a global conglomerate in the medical device space. The Mechanical Draftsman plays a critical role within the Mechanical Engineering, Product Development and Manufacturing teams, providing essential support in the development of detailed drawings, CAD models, and updates needed to bring advanced robotics and medical device designs from concept to production. The ideal candidate must be highly collaborative, proficient in SolidWorks, and skilled at applying industry standards and best practices for mechanical drawings, including GD&T per ASME Y14.x, to create accurate, production-ready documentation. This is a On-site, 12-month contract opportunity based on Melbourne, Florida.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical drafting/design using SolidWorks within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Experience converting legacy drawings (e.g., PDF) and documentation into accurate 3D models and fully detailed drawings.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards and best practices, including GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and related guidelines.
  • Proficiency in creating and detailing SolidWorks drawings, including standard and section views, detailed views, annotations, weld symbols, hole callouts, and notes.
  • Experience with revision control processes and engineering change management (ECR/ECO).
  • Strong capability to read and interpret engineering sketches, revisions, and markups, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and 3D printing, including related tolerancing.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate-level education in drafting, mechanical design, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in regulated or quality-focused environments(e.g., ISO 9001, aerospace, medical device, defense).
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems and structured part numbering.
  • Exposure to tolerance analysis, DFM principles, and sheet metal design practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings using SolidWorks
  • Recreate legacy PDF designs into fully editable SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings while maintaining accuracy and detail.
  • Utilize GD&T principles following ASME Y14.5 guidelines, ensuring drawing packages meet ASME Y14.100 and Y14.24 requirements.
  • Partner with mechanical engineers to transform design inputs, redlines, and markups into finalized manufacturing documentation.
  • Establish and maintain drawing templates, title blocks, custom properties, and revision controls in alignment with internal standards.
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ballooned assembly drawings; ensure part numbering and configurations align with PLM requirements.
  • Review drawings for fit, form, function, tolerances, and manufacturability; implement updates based on engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Generate manufacturing-ready deliverables (e.g., PDFs, DXF files for fabrication, and STEP/IGES for suppliers) while maintaining proper file organization and control.
  • Assist with prototype builds by creating exploded views, cross-sections, and assembly instructions to support build activities.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and fabricators to clarify drawing details and tolerances, updating documentation based on feedback.
