Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Engineering field.
  • 20+ years of experience combining product development and design team leadership.
  • Technical expertise in part materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to determine if a design is optimized for cost/investment/customer viewpoint.
  • Basic use of CATIA, Excel, and PowerPoint for analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting or independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of standard and novel manufacturing processes used to produce parts in their field.
  • Recognizes whether a part is efficiently crafted for ease of manufacture and optimized for cost.
  • Identifies areas where improvement opportunities exist and by what means.
  • Evaluates the reasonableness of cost targets and VA/VE proposals by examining the logic and assumptions used in creating them.
  • Judges the feasibility of a proposal, including the path necessary for implementation and application timing.
  • Gives approval or issues instructions as needed.
  • Provides background, context, and leadership in discussions with vendors during on-site attendance at benchmarking workshops.
  • Consults regularly with counterparts in the Japan Cost Planning Division.
  • Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to interpret the impact on other metrics resulting from cost proposals.
